5 Cheap & Cheerful Date Night Ideas You’ll Love

As the years go on, you may be starting to realize that dating is expensive. When you have children and you don’t have much support around you, it’s easy to see that date night is no longer an outdoor experience filled with candlelight and dancing at a fancy restaurant. Date night is an elusive enough concept as it is when you have children, but a date night out? That’s relatively unheard of. Because of this, parents need to get creative!

Thinking up ideas for a date night at home is not always the easiest thing to do, especially when your regular date nights have surrounded heading out for a romantic dinner or seeing a show. We’ve got some cheap indoor date ideas that won’t break the bank and will keep that spark going in your relationship, too.

Cooking. Cooking is usually a chore rather than something pleasurable, but you can change that. Once a week, when the children have gone to bed, challenge each other. International cooking night is a great idea for a date night. Each week, one of you cooks a meal from another culture. There are points for the most creative and elaborate meal ideas and extending that cultural theme to music is a great way to make it more authentic. Why go to Thailand when you can bring Thailand to you?

Movie Night. Upgrade your TV package and internet connection, because you’re about to Netflix and chill in the cleanest way possible. Check here for more details if you need to upgrade your package. One of you could choose the film and the other could make the snacks – and no complaints! Switch out each week so that you both get to teach the other person what you like and don’t like.

Games Night. Invest in a Foosball table, a deck of cards and a chess board. Put on your favourite music, grab some wine and delicious cheeses and keep score. Games night can get pretty competitive and it’s a great way to tease and taunt while keeping it friendly.

Chatting. When you’re busy parents, you rarely get time to just sit and have a conversation. You don’t get to just wax lyrical on old times or rant about issues in the world anymore without a child interrupting you. Turn off the television, put the smartphones on silent and put down the technology. Have a conversation while sharing some amazing food or sweets. You can really get to know your partner all over again when you take the time to have a conversation.

Wine Tasting. Usually you’d go to a brewery or a bar for this, but there’s nothing stopping you getting a little merry at home. One of you should play designated driver, though, because there are still children in the house! Switch out each week so one of you does the tasting while the other chooses the drinks and vice versa.

Date night indoors doesn’t have to be boring; it’s up to you to make it really fun!
