Designing Your Own Home Has Many Benefits

Posted by Kerri Mosher on July 14, 2017 in Blog |

There’s so much choice in the real estate market today that you might think there’s no point in building your own, but you’d be dead wrong!  Building your own custom home from the foundations up has many advantages. Here are a few of them:

Greater Flexibility

When you build your own home, you have much greater flexibility in what you can and cannot achieve. For example, you can be much more flexible with your budget because, in most cases, the cost of homes in any given area will be within a certain range which may not be the same as yours, this not only means you’re limited by price, but it also means that you’re limited in the amount of space you can get, even if it isn’t enough, which is never a good position to be in.

You Get the House You Want

Sure, you might not have the budget to build a mansion filled with marble floors and its own lake, but broadly speaking, when you design your own home, you can create the home that you really want. If you want to have a huge kitchen that takes up most of the first floor, for example, you can because you aren’t limited by the options that prefabricated houses come with.

Better Locations

The thing about prefabricated homes is that you can’t always find one you can afford in a location you like, and this is especially a problem if you want to live somewhere remote with pretty views. Although you will still be somewhat constrained by price when you’re building a new home, you’ll have a much better opportunity to choose the perfect location, even if it means cutting down in the build budget, if that’s something that matters to you. The land is not as expensive as you might believe in a lot of places, so it’s perfectly possible to build a decent home in spectacular surroundings if that is something which is a priority for you.

You Won’t Have to Renovate

Although it’s possible to find the perfect prefabricated house for sale, which you love completely and which h you won’t have to change in any way at all, it’s very rare. You’ll probably want to, at least redecorate your new house, and you might have to extend the place to get the space you need. This isn’t a problem when you build your own house because you can completely customize it to your requirements, perhaps with a little help from ready-made duplex floor plans, and a good architect to keep you in check. In fact, if you put some real thought into planning, you’ll probably never have to renovate your new house once it’s built at all!

It’ll Meet Your Standards

Another good thing about building your own home is that you’re fully engaged in the whole process. You can work on the plans, hire the best construction companies in the area and oversee the whole project if you like. This means that you will absolutely be able to guarantee the build quality of your home. This might not seem so important to some of you, but if you’ve ever bought a home only to find that the basement floods due to poor construction and the pipes leak when it rains, you will understand why being in control of the building is such a great benefit.

More Saleable

If you design and build a property which is unique, and you do it to a very high standard, it is almost always going to be worth more than the other homes in your area. Buyers are always on the lookout for something unique, so your home will attract them in their droves, should you ever decide to sell up and move on.

Total Freedom

Of course, the greatest benefit of designing your own home of them all is the total freedom it gives you. If you want a fireplace, you can have one; if you want to ensure that everything in your home is energy-efficient, you can do that too. There are lots of excellent companies, who specialize in custom-house design, and they can help you to create a design that works for you and meets all of your criteria so that you really do end up with your dream home in the end. They will work within your budget constraints to achieve this, so you won’t have to worry about a thing.

Did you design your own home Would you do it again?
