Mornings pose one of the most mind-boggling dichotomies. On the one hand, they allow us to get a jump on the day; they allow us to achieve our goals from the get-go because no matter what it is you need to do, it is much easier to do in the mornings than anything other time; working, exercising, meditating, studying, spending time with the kids, all of it. On the other hand, though, mornings suck.
If you are a morning person and you wake up invigorated, then good for you. If you aren’t a morning person, however, waking up groggy, blurry eyed and closer to feeling angry than you do refreshed (and, as a mom, why wouldn’t you), don’t despair just yet.
We have come up with a list of amazing ways to feel fresh, energetic and invigorated in the mornings, and it is as much what you do the night before as it is when you wake up:
The Secret Is A Happy Belly
One of the easiest ways to ruin a good night’s sleep is to upset that belly of yours, and nothing upsets your belly more than red wine, chocolate, and coffee. Seriously. That is a scientific fact. They do something funny to your tummy that will stop you from hitting deep sleep because you’ll keep waking up. So try to not indulge in these at night (just indulge at lunchtime instead).
Be Happy With Your Mattress
All too often we compromise on our mattress. We move into a new place and grab the cheapest one out of urgent necessity, telling ourselves that we’ll upgrade it when we settle in a bit more. But we never do. Well, as researched by Sleep Like The Dead, your mattress has a huge effect on how well you sleep. Too firm, too soft, memory foam, springs, mattress toppers, water beds; we all have preferences that suit us our body shapes, so go get one and wake up refreshed.
Always, Always Pee
You might be sleeping, but your kidneys are not. They don’t sleep. They are always awake and always alert, like a spider. Your kidney’s work in conjunction with your bladder, which is why you should always pee before bed. Squeeze out whatever you can. Trust us. It’ll stop you having to get up in the middle of the night.
Water Not Coffee
Tomorrow morning, when you wake up all groggy and blurry-eyed and you stumble into the kitchen gagging for coffee, stop. Yup, no coffee. Not to start. Instead, pour yourself a nice tall glass of cold water. This has loads of health benefits when drank on an empty stomach. But what’s excellent is that it will kickstart your metabolism which will help you wake up faster and more energized.
Open A Window
When you’re sleeping, have a window open in your bedroom. When you come downstairs in the morning, open the kitchen window. Get some fresh oxygen in your house to blast away the cobwebs (and carbon dioxide for that matter). You’ll be amazing at how much fresh oxygen can raise your awake levels.
