Billy Mosher JR Day 10 500 words challenge.
Billy was born in May of 1996, and I thought he was my last baby! When I was pregnant for Billy I was carrying twins until I was 8 weeks pregnant and then I lost his twin. I was put on restrictions for the rest of my pregnancy. I carried Billy in my back and I remember I was pretty are along before they could get his heart beat. Billy was the first child I had back labor for and I have to say it was the worst! I also had chosen to have an all natural birth and have no pain medication at all.
When Billy was 10 months old he got real sick, he was put in the hospital and was being treated for upper respiratory infection. They had an IV in his foot and the foot was wrapped. The IV was not checked correctly and it came out of his vain and was left unattended. This caused him 3rd-degree burns from the inside out.
Billy was crying and wouldn’t stop, I kept trying to figure out what was wrong with him and couldn’t. He did seem to have a dirty diaper but I decided to take it off just to make sure. When I went to take the diaper off I saw that his leg was swollen. I called the nurse in and was in a panic state and she said ( Oh my God) and turned around and left. She brought another nurse in, they took the IV out and told me that the swelling would go down by morning. Billy refused to go back in the crib so I put him in the bed with me. Yes they had a fit but I didn’t give a shit, I knew my baby was not feeling well. The rails were up on the bed so I didn’t see it being a big deal. I was exhausted and he wanted his mommy. I woke the next morning to Bill standing over us and he said ( What the hell) I looked at Billy’s leg and it had blisters from his knee down to his toes.
I demanded that Billy is transferred to another hospital. They told me they would not authorize it and if I transferred him to another hospital then the insurance would not cover his bill. I transferred him anyways.
When he arrived at the other hospital there was a team of doctors in his room and within an hour of arriving they said he had Kawasaki disease. Billy had all 5 of the symptoms. Billy started getting treated for Kawasaki and he was also getting treated at the burn clinic.
Billy walked at 8 months old and had to relearn once his surgeries were done for the damage to his foot. Bill and I had to treat this burn and it was very hard to deal with. When he first went to the burn clinic they popped them blisters and my baby screamed and the fluid landed on me and this just tore me up. Billy ended up with two surgeries to repair his foot and had a reoccurrence of the Kawasaki disease. This was a very hard time for Billy, Bill and myself.
Today Billy still has problems with his foot but do to the surgery he needs, we are having problems finding a doctor that can do the reconstruction of his foot because of how server the surgery is. His bones in his foot have grown wrong and causes him pain and this is why he needs the surgery. We don’t have private insurance so I am sure that is why we are having a bigger issue. So we are hoping soon this will get worked out so he can have the surgery and not have the pain he has today.
Billy is smart and has a heart of gold. He is very social on the internet but is anti-social face to face. Billy takes awesome pictures but getting him to take them is another thing. Garrett and Joshua look up to Billy and love him very much. Billy did finish school but he hated school. He was bullied a lot and is a very sensitive person. I have put some of his photos that he had taken below. I love showing off his work. He has made me proud.
