Aging With Grace: Why Holistic Health is so Important

Posted by Kerri Mosher on August 9, 2017 in Blog |

We all live with certain goals in mind, an aspect of ourselves we constantly try to improve or keep at bay in order to be happy. Some people think they just need to lose weight and they’d be fulfilled; others work towards perfect skin and feel their foundation crack underneath them at the sight of a new pimple – or a bit of extra weight on the scale.

The truth is, most people have a skewed perception of the way they look and, even if they were to achieve their goals, it wouldn’t make them happy – it would lead them to focus on another fault. As we get older, the most important thing we can do is to look at ourselves holistically rather than pinpointing imperfections.

Here are the worst-kept secrets to aging with grace and loving the years we’ve been given.

Slow down the aging

We’d like to live for as long as possible, that’s for sure; life is, after all, wonderful. We need to get old and eventually give room for more people to be born, though, just as those before us had the courtesy to make room for us. Getting old is just another word for living – and we should embrace this feeling with everything we got.

A way to do this is to slow the process down a little bit so that we get the chance to enjoy our golden years with vigor and health. Some sports are better at keeping your brain healthy, by the way, and regular tennis, as well as table tennis, are one of the most celebrated sports for exercising your brain.

Cardio exercise is one of the best ways to keep your cells young, boost your brain power, and keep your cognitive abilities as up to date as possible. It’s especially good for increasing your memory as it increases the blood flow and oxygen in your body. It’s so much interesting science-talk about the brain benefits of cardio – too much for this little article to explain sufficiently.

Strength-building exercises are also important for our bodies during all stages of life, and especially for women who are more likely to suffer from a loss of bone density. Lift weights, lift your own body weight with exercises such as yoga and keep your bones stronger for longer. For aging women, it’s a good idea to talk to your doctor about a calcium supplement if you suffer from osteoporosis or similar – read about AlgaeCal plant calcium side effects and ask her about any questions you may have.

Decrease chronic stress

Holistic health is about more than the food we eat the activities we bask in regularly, and techniques to fight chronic stress can give you several years of energy and mobility. Make an honest attempt at calming yourself down every day and focus on meditation, yoga, music, as well as art to lower your blood pressure and reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases.

Stress is awful for us when it happens and even worse with time, so give yourself the gift of calmness this year and enjoy a healthy life for as long as possible.
