The kitchen is one of the most important and well-used rooms in the home, and so a space that suits your needs is essential. You need enough room to prepare food, store ingredients and cooking equipment and maybe even space to host guests too. If your kitchen is no longer working for you in the way you want, it’s easy to consider ripping it out and starting again. However this is not only time-consuming but expensive too, and actually, there’s plenty you can do just cosmetically that can totally transform it. Here are a few ways you can go about it.
Repaint The Walls
Never underestimate the power of a coat of paint! If your kitchen looks grubby or dull, repainting in a fresh, light neutral shade will make it look bigger, brighter and more spacious. Get rid of any marks and paint over old, dark walls. This is a cheap and easy way to immediately change how the kitchen looks.
Repaint or Replace The Doors
If your kitchen cabinets are still in good condition but just look a little dated, there’s no need to remove the whole lot. If they’re made of solid wood, you may be able to remove, sand and repaint them with a good quality kitchen cupboard paint. Replace the handles and put them back on, and you have a kitchen that looks completely different but cost next to nothing. If the doors are broken or aren’t the right material to be painted, replace them instead. It’s still far cheaper than a brand new kitchen, and you get that fresh new feeling in the room.
Replace The Sink, Taps or Both
The sink is one area of the kitchen that can quickly bring down the look. A sink and draining board which is dented, scratched, discolored or old-fashioned is never going to look the best. You could replace the whole lot, or if it’s still ok just replace the taps. Putting something shiny, new and modern on will transform how it looks and bring a sleek and modern look to the kitchen.
Replace Old Appliances
For a simple cosmetic makeover, you don’t need to throw away and rebuy every appliance you own. But if there’s anything that’s due for an upgrade or past it’s best, it’s another way you can bring a fresh new feel to the kitchen. You could call in an appliance removal company to get rid of the old and then make way for the new. How about a large, American style fridge freezer complete with water dispenser and ice machine? Perhaps a new washing machine or dryer would make life easier. It could even be your smaller appliances like the kettle and toaster.
Change The Lighting
Spotlights are often a good choice in the kitchen since they look sleek and make sure all of the area is evenly lit up. On top of changing your main light fitting, how about LED strip lights along kickboards and under cupboards? A cool, modern way to bring a new look to the kitchen and looks fantastic in the evening.
