Pick Of The Litter: Treating Your Pets Like Tiny Kings

Posted by Kerri Mosher on January 13, 2017 in Blog |

Whether you have a cat or a dog, a fish or a lizard, or something else entirely; you want to look after your pet. But, there’s a difference between keeping something alive and giving it a meaningful life. The truth is that too many pets spent their time bored with nothing to do. No good pet owner would want that, though. So, it’s time to start making a difference in your furry friend’s life! To help you out, this post will go through some of the crucial areas of pet ownership that you can’t ignore.

All animals need some sort of engagement or entertainment. Just like humans, most household pets are too smart to be happy doing nothing all day. And, with boredom, will eventually come stress. A stressed out a pet isn’t a happy pet. To truly give your buddy what they need, realistically you need to spend at least an hour a day with them. This may not sound like a lot, but most animals are only active for this sort of time naturally, anyway. So, it’s a good amount of time for some play!

The way that you play with your pet will depend completely on the individual animal. Some animals like to play rough, whereas others will prefer to be a little more gentle. This isn’t just based on the animal type; but, also the animal itself. Over time, you will learn what they like to play with and what scares them. So, it will get easier. Be aware, though; you may have to change their play sometimes. Otherwise, they will start to get bored again. Our pets are much smarter than we often give them credit for.

As much as they are intelligent, most animals are also emotional. And, just like humans, an animal’s emotions can be easier controlled through love and affection. For instance, when your dog tries to knock you over when you get home. He isn’t trying to hurt or annoy you; he’s showing you affection. Or, if you have a cat, you may find that they try to sit on your computer keyboard. But, they’re not trying to stop you from working; they want your attention. When owning a pet, you have to remember that you’re the biggest thing in their life. In fact, you’re probably one of the few things they truly know. So, it’s important that you give them that love back.

If you don’t give an animal the affection that it craves, you could find that they become more distant from you. Most mammals can feel at least some degree of sadness or sorrow. So, ignoring their need for hugs can be a horrible way to treat them. The more that you fuss and love your animal, the more they will do it back. Eventually, you’ll feel much closer to your little friend.

If a human were to eat nothing but fast food chips, they would start to become unhealthy. Their mood would change, and so would their appearance. The same be said for animals, too. If they are eating poor quality food every day, their mood will most certainly be changed. Pet food is very important. And, it’s worth spending a bit more on it to get something much better. Advantage Multi is a great option for dogs, and Science Plan is a great option for cats. But, you have to do your own research, here. If your animal seems like they’re off after a change in food, make sure that it’s not doing more harm than good.

Because of their emotional intelligence, a lot of animals can tell how humans are feeling. And, when arguments start, or people are always loud and careless, animals will get scared. This fear can change their entire life. So, it’s important to make sure that your home is a good one for an animal. It’s generally agreed that raising children in this sort of environment is bad. But, at least a child has a way to understand the noise. An animal can’t. Instead, they think that it’s something that they need to be afraid of. When you choose to keep an animal, you should make sure that you think of them first. You made the decision to have them; they didn’t have a choice.

Hopefully, this will give you a better understanding of what it takes to treat your furry little friends as well as possible. The animals that we keep can give us a lot of joy and happiness. But, you have to give some of that back. This sort of relationship has to be two-way.
